Adaptive Energy and PMB today announced a partnership to collaborate on the development and delivery of customized non-destructive testing (NDT) solutions for aerospace industry customers.
Both companies have significant experience serving aeronautics, space, and military/defense organizations. The partnership combines Adaptive Energy’s creative engineering and robotics expertise with PMB’s state-of-the-art high energy X-ray and digital radiography systems to create custom NDT solutions to meet mission-critical material evaluation needs. This partnership carries on each company’s track record of leading-edge NDT innovation.

Aerospace, defense and other high-precision industries require detailed high energy x-ray imaging to detect material and manufacturing flaws which can compromise structure or performance. Rocket motor inspection has numerous inspection standards, for example, identifying fuel porosity, cracks, and liner dis-bonds. Additionally, all assembled components must be interrogated and analyzed carefully for accurate placement. The high penetrating X-ray systems from PMB, which offer dynamically controlled dose rate and a focal spot size down to 0.6mm, produce superior quality radiographic images for aerospace NDT. These X-ray systems can also be placed closer to the object being tested, allowing a higher dosage rate. For example, imaging can be done at 7 MeV, which is a 50% higher dose than 6 MeV, for only an incremental increase in price.
Non-destructive testing (NDT) is the use of various technical evaluation methods to analyze the properties or a material, component or assembly without causing any damage to the item that would make it unfit for later use. Using imaging technologies such as X-ray and ultrasound to visualize the internal structure of a material is one example of NDT. Digital radiography scanning is an advanced NDT technique that allows X-rays to be viewed and processed in digital format rather than on film, for advanced and flexible processing, image enhancement, and analysis of the images. Computed tomography (CT) creates three-dimensional images for more detailed and accurate inspection. The PBM imaging systems use Cyxplus software that provides the capability to cut and check any surface in a volume with high accuracy.
